ON-THE-RUSH PALETTE
YEAR: 2023
School Year: Junior
Busy people living busy lives doesn’t have to be a struggle. The on-the-rush palette caters to people who need a little more extra time in the morning. Commuting with this palette is a breeze - putting all your essentials into one body.
The palette features a mixing palette and a mirror in the first half for professional artists on the go. The second half contains an eye shadow palette in various shades. The last layer is the face palette containing contour, blush, and highlight.
A want and a need
It was important to keep in mind a compact but completely functional palette as this was catered to a more professional user. Therefore the incorporation of a mixing palette with 24 pans for 24 shades was important to make as small but as usable as possible.
from ideation sketches to final and reformated concepts
final idea
Knowing what I wanted I created a more detailed sketch of how the body was going to look like. In terms of function, I stuck to its interchangeable palette concept since sustainability is always a path to strive for. I of course kept the monochrome shades to not stray too far from the original vision.
-
Round form for an easier and comfier hold.
-
There are 24 pans that you can fill with 24 different products of your choosing.
-
The mixing tray helps with creating more color variations within the palette plus a mirror at all times.
prototype
Creating a few prototypes helped me realize what I liked and didn’t like about the body - one being the whole body. I wasn’t a fan of the swivel motion I was building on so I decided to reroute to a fold-out palette for easier grip. The whole point of the palette is easy to use and focusing on using this palette with one hand in a rush was important. I decided to make a slightly wider body but not longer - keeping that small and compact aspect to it.

With the help of the prototype, I was able to redesign the body to be easier to hold while having more slots for colors. The final body is a light pink plastic body that consists of four layers.
final prototype
The final body was 3D Printed at a much larger scale since the hinges were too intricate to print on a small scale. Although the final does not reflect the size it perfectly shows the details and complexity of this palette.
